Super Commercials

One of the many great traditions held while watching the Super Bowl is enjoying the humorous and entertaining commercials. On Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, Super Bowl 51 between the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons broadcasted to 111.3 million people. Commercials of all kinds focused on the message of popular brands rather than of comedic scenes we have seen in the past.

In previous years, big corporations have used their allotted time to display a memorable commercial with comedy, but this year many tried to show the true message of their company without humorous plots. At $5 million per 30 second, Super Bowl commercials are way more expensive than the average commercial, $200,000- $500,000 per 30 second, for relatively big shows of television. In a recent article on Forbes.com has shown statistics about impressionable viewers that watch last on Feb.5. Companies who advertise during the Super Bowl recieve a bargain. Each company will only pay about half as much per viewer. Popular commercials this year include: Coca- Cola, Dove, GoDaddy, McDonald’s, Microsoft, Intel, Mercedez- Benz, Sprint, T- Mobile, Mr. Clean, Kia, Bai, and more.

The funniest two commercials played during Super Bowl 51 was Mr. Clean “Cleaner of your Dreams” and  Wix Jason Statham and Gal Gadot. The Mr. Clean commercial transformed an otherwise bland commercial into a hilarious piece about how you can have the clean of your dreams. On the other hand, Wix televised one of their first commercials ever using two extremely popular actors to display dramatic stunts with a touch of humor.

The most controversial ad of the Super Bowl was Budweiser’s “Born the Hard Way.” Even though Budweiser executives have claimed that their commercial has no political ties, the commercial surely sparked conversation. The story incorporated into the ad shows of Budweiser started by following one man. People have managed to connect the deep message with President Donald Trump’s new immigration policy. Thus creating a huge splash in society about Budweiser and politics.

On top of national coverage, Super Bowl commercials are often downloaded onto websites like Youtube and rack up millions of views. Commercials during Super Bowl 51 also released movie trailers that will arrive in 2017. The list includes: A Cure for Wellness, Baywatch, Ghost in the Shell, Guardians of the Galaxy, John Wick, Life, Logan, Pirates of the Caribbean- Dead Man Tells No Tales, The Fate of the Furious, and Transformers- The Last Knight. On top of New England’s overtime exciting victory, commercials and trailers have continued to entertain viewers everywhere.
