Swinging into the season

Another spring season is under way and the OHS Girls Golf team has begun early season play.  With a number of girls graduating and moving on from the sport, this year’s young team consists of a variety of players from OHS, OJHS and St. Mary’s. There is a total of seven golfers spread out across the three schools on the varsity squad.  With a variety of age and talent, the girls are off to a better start this season than expected.  Head Coach Tim Hunst said, “We are performing above the expectations for our young and inexperienced team.”

The Huskies have played in two conference matches with a win against Mankato East and a loss to Faribault, leaving them with an early 1-1 record in conference play.  OHS Junior Marie Otterson was a medalist in both matches.  The Huskies headed back up to Faribault on Apr. 21 for the Faribault Invitational where they finished with a total team score of 457 and Otterson bagged a personal best 88.  Hunst said, “The girls are working to improve every single day.” With such a young team striving to get better, the future looks very good for the program.  The Huskies are back in action on Thursday, Apr. 27 at the Northfield Golf Club.
