Sliding into sections
The Owatonna Girls Softball team’s regular season is coming to an end, although the varsity team will continue practicing to prepare for sections. Junior captain Kayla Johnson said, “My team is working really hard to prepare for them [sections]. We have a lot more focus in practices as we approach sections, and we’re starting to beat some really good teams which makes me excited to see what we can do in sections.” Section games will begin May 18. The team will have tough play with defending state champions Lakeville South in their section. Coach Brian Pilcher said, “We are looking forward to the challenge of the sections. I really believe we can play with any of those teams and advance far into the sections.” In regular season the girls played some tough teams as well, junior captain Millie Wanous said, “Beating both Mankato teams was an accomplishment.” The team beat West 5-4 and East 6-5. The last regular season game is Friday, May 15 at Rochester Century at 5:00 p.m.
