Final Four and Sub-Sections

The Owatonna Girls Tennis team played in the Final Four on Tuesday, Oct 8.  They played Rochester Mayo and lost by a score of 0-7. Coach Curt Matejeck said, “The score does not accurately reflect the matches. We had three very close matches. Gabby lost hers in a third set tiebreaker.”

The team, despite losing, is already looking ahead and preparing for individual sections…a tournament that will be difficult. Coach Matejeck said, “It’s very difficult in our section to advance anyone to state. Century won in doubles at state last year. There are other two girls ranked in our section that are ranked in the state Top 10. It’s a hard section.”

And it does not help that we are in the tougher sub-section. The Owatonna girls will be playing Rochester Mayo, Lakeville North, Lakeville South, Rochester John Marshall, Faribault, Farmington and Albert Lea. Those who win will move onto the Final Four of our section. Senior Captain Gabriele Tellijohn said, “I lost by two points! It was a bittersweet moment. But I think it was my best match of the season.”

The sub-section individual play will be held at the Rochester Athletic Club at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10.
