The Owatonna Boys Soccer team looks to make a big final push as the regular season comes to an end. The team finished the regular season with a record of 9-5-2. They had a Big 9 Conference record of 7-3-1 just putting them outside of the top three, while the team finished with a section record of 2-3-1 placing them in sixth.
This season has brought a lot of highs and lows for the team. They faced many well run out of conference programs such as Cretin-Derham Hall and St. Paul Central. Both were well played games with the Huskies tying St. Paul Central 1-1 and losing to Cretin-Derham Hall 0-3. Head Coach Bob Waypa said, ”With both St. Paul Central and Cretin-Derham Hall being top teams in the state it is always a good challenge and it helps us see where we are at as a team and what we can improve on.” The team looked to improve all throughout the season.
With the team having a young core this year, they turned to senior captain Garrett Karsten for goals. That is exactly what he provided as he stood above the competition this season breaking the in season scoring record for the Huskies with 19 goals and counting. ”It was indescribable, it had been a goal of mine for a long time and it felt amazing to finally accomplish that goal.” The Huskies accomplished many great things this season.
The team had some big wins over the season such as Farmington who is seeded fifth in the section. With the team being placed sixth in their section, they will be playing their first section game away at Rochester John Marshall. The team lost to them early in the season with a score of 5-2. The Huskies hope to bounce back and make it back to section finals like they did last year.
The Huskies play at Rochester John Marshall this Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 7:00 p.m.
