The Owatonna Girls Basketball team has a very busy winter season ahead. The team has acquired new coaches and brand new facilities over the off-season. With a mix of these components and many returning varsity players, it has led the team to have high expectations and goals this season.

After only a week of gameplay in the season, the Huskies are ecstatic to keep climbing towards the goals they had set to start the season. The team had a big win on Thursday against Faribault, ending with a score of 71-19. Senior captain Carsyn Brady said, “It is very rewarding and to win big time as a team is something that we want to see more often this year.” The team not only looks to win but is looking to surprise some teams. Senior captain Morgan Fisher said, “[We want] to be at least top three in the big 9, [that] would be so rewarding and would show just how hard our team has worked.” Many individual and team expectations give the team time to work towards goals.

To get better everyday is the main goal.”

— Patrick Webb

First year head coach, Patrick Webb, took on a huge role when coming to the girls side of Owatonna Basketball. Webb coached under Josh Williams, the Owatonna Boys Basketball head coach, for nine years before making the switch. Webb came into the season knowing that he wants his team to play high-pressure and fast-paced basketball all year long. Coach Webb said, “Our defense has improved very well and our pressure has been awesome, obviously holding Faribault to two field goals is impressive and speaks volumes.” All levels of the program are adapting to the new season and expectations that are held.

Staying competitive will help reach the goals set by the end of the season. Coach Webb said, “To get better everyday is the main goal.” Coach Webb has many goals set this year for the team, but his main goal is to make sure they are improving day by day.

The Huskies next game is Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 7:30 P.M. against the Red Wing Wingers at the Owatonna High School gym.
