The Owatonna Girls Basketball team has hit a rough patch in their season, however, they are on the rise now and have been battling back. Their record is currently 5-8.
After halfway through the season, the Huskies have 11 games left and they are hoping to end their season off strong. They have been practicing hard and have started connecting, which has influenced them to play much better. They had a big win against Albert Lea, ending with a score of 78-29.
Junior captain Abigail Shornock has done a great job leading the team with Carsyn Brady and Morgan Fisher. Shornock said, “For the rest of the season, get ready to see us level up even more. We’re all about the high-energy, fast-paced game, and our teamwork is amazing.”
The Huskies have big goals for the rest of their season. Shornock said, “Our goals are to win all of our remaining games and dominate the big nine.” Head coach Patrick Webb also has a strong goal for the girls. Mr. Webb said, “Our goal is pretty simple. We are going to strive to get better every day.” Continuing to keep working hard daily will help the team reach their goals for the remainder of their season.
A big accomplishment this year for the team has been their versatility. Shornock said, “I’m so proud of how we’ve become such an offensively balanced team, and our defense is gritty and relentless.” The Huskies hope to keep dominating and playing well against the big nine. Shornock said, “We’re not just playing to play: we’re playing to win, and I believe we’ve got what it takes to be at the top.”
The Huskies’ next game is Friday, Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m. against Faribault at Faribault High School.
