The Owatonna Boys Hockey team has had a strong first half of their season. Their record is 11-3-1.
Their season has been very successful so far with their new coach, Mr. Dennis Will. They have been connecting as a team and have already 78 goals overall. They have also found success in the defensive zone with only having 34 against. Senior captain Mark Spurgeon said, “Our season has been going well and we have put together an extremely solid record so far.” They expect to keep winning and battling to improve their already positive record.
The Huskies look to the second half of their season with hopeful eyes. Their season will start to get more difficult as they will begin to play harder teams and even get into sectional play. Senior captain Brody Goodnature said, “Looking forward, we want to start stringing together wins so that we are finding success as we near sections.”
Although they will be playing more challenging games they still have big goals to fulfill a longer season. Spurgeon said, “Our goals for the rest of the year are to win the Big 9 and then go to state.” They are currently sitting in third place for the Big Nine behind Rochester Century in first and Northfield in second. Goodnature said, “My goal for the rest of the year is to encourage and lead the team into getting the results that we envisioned for ourselves, which includes winning the Big 9 and winning the section tournament.” The Huskies look to achieve these high goals especially since this has been something that boys hockey has not accomplished for a very long time.
Their next game is Thursday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. against Mankato West at the Steele County Four Seasons Centre.
