The Owatonna Girls Hockey team has currently scored 8-10 this year. They are coached by head coach Tony Cloud and assisted by Mike Vestch and Willson Anderle.
The girls have played many tough teams this year compared to past years. The team has taken on many conference games such as Centennial/Spring Lake Park, Elk River, East Ridge, Rosemount, Hastings, and Lakeville North.
Girls Hockey captains are seniors Izzy Radel, Samantha Bogen, and Molly Achterkirch. Captain Izzy Radel said, “Playing tougher teams pushes us to be better and play at a faster pace which is great for us because it helps us prepare for sections, where we will face tougher teams.”
For the girl’s teams, sections start Feb. 7. Fast-approaching sections, with only seven games left in the regular season. Head coach Tony Cloud said, “Going into sections we are looking really strong like we’re in the middle of the pack in sections right now, probably sitting as the fourth seed, but we know all the teams that are ahead of us, we have played and seen we know what to expect.” The girls have been working hard at practice. These girls have been putting in the work to hopefully accomplish their goals. Senior captain Bogen said, “Going into sections we have a solid three consistent lines and five defenders that will help us come together and achieve our goals.”
The girls have accomplished many things on the season as a team and as individuals. Sophomore Kendra Bogen has hit 50 career points. Kendra said, “It was cool, it was a big part as a sophomore and I’m excited to keep going and making the team better.”
The team’s next game is Thursday, Jan. 18 at Mankato West at 7:15 p.m. Their next home game is Thursday, Jan. 25 at 7:00 p.m.
