Brand new OHS facilities bring added excitement to the teams.

Being on a team means coming together as one to ultimately achieve a goal that would be impossible without others around you.

The brand new facilities at the high school have brought teams closer together than they were before.

The brand new facilities at the high school have brought new light to sports teams.

The facilities give student-athletes the chances to become the best they can be. The new weight room,  gym, track, football field, and wrestling room help that be possible.

The weight room defines a team by bringing them together as one. Getting up and going through a treacherous workout together early in the morning will always bring a team closer together.

Activities director Marc Achterkirch said, “With the 18 racks you can get an entire team in there so that we can actually have a couple teams in there if need be.” With the weight room being larger teams won’t have to wait to get in and lift. This way teams can be in there together making the most out of the time and space that they have.

There is a lot more space in this weight room than the old one which helps for teams and makes lifting better. Senior Jack Strom said, “The weight room gives us more versatility with our workouts. Since it is a lot bigger the programs can be more tailored to the sport.” Different sports should do different lifts, and with this  space in the new weight room it is possible.

On game nights the atmosphere is electric which makes it a ton of fun for the players, fans, and everyone involved.

— OHS Boys Basketball Coach, Josh Williams

The new gym allows teams to have a better environment. It brings in a huge amount of fans that come to support the sports playing in the gymnasium. Owatonna boys basketball head coach Josh Williams said, “On game nights the atmosphere is electric which makes it a ton of fun for the players, fans, and everyone involved.”Teams that come into the gym find themselves a new home.

The change can be felt by the players. Boys basketball captain,  Rielly Kleeburger said, “The new facilities have been great for us. The new gym and locker room allow us to practice and play super efficiently. I also believe the community loves to come to the games in such a top of the line environment.”

Junior captain Nolan Ginskey said, “The support that we have from the community and student section is unmatched. The new floor and added shot clock makes for better gameplay.” The new gym brings a new excitement of teams that the old gym did not have.

All of the facilities, the new gym, weight room, football field, commons, and softball and baseball fields help teams build new memories that will last a lifetime.

The memories they have will remind them of the pride that they had playing in the new facilities and for the Huskies.
