Owatonna senior Carsyn Brady committed to North Dakota State University Division I to run cross country and track. She finished off her senior year of cross country with an amazing state appearance. This was her fifth straight state appearance which capped off an amazing varsity career. She now looks onto track where she hopes to make it back to state. Brady started both track and cross country in her seventh grade year.
For someone to compete at the highest level of Division I sports, there is a lot of work and commitment put into the sport. Head cross country coach Daniel Leer said, “She has the drive, discipline and competitive edge that has allowed her to take her natural abilities and build on them.” This is one of the many things that has allowed Brady to reach such a high level of achievement.
Brady had a successful cross country season as she led the team all year and made it back to state. What Brady did is not common, Coach Leer said, “She cracked the varsity squad right away as a seventh grader and sometimes you cannot have as good of seasons but she has done great.”
Someone starting as early as Brady did it is certainly easy to understand how they would be content with where they are performing, but with Brady that was never the case, she kept pushing and pushing and worked for her.
Track throughout her varsity career has been just as outstanding. After qualifying for state last year she hopes to do that again this upcoming season. Brady said, “My goal is to break the school record for the 800 and get top three at state.”
Committing to a sport at the next level is a dream for many and to Brady it means a lot. Brady said, “It’s a huge honor because it’s something I worked really hard for.”
Choosing NDSU came as an easy decision, she said, “I chose NDSU because of the people and facilities. When I stepped onto the campus I loved everything about it.” One of Brady’s main goals when she gets to college is to make an impact by sophomore year and be a top contributor for the track and field team.
After such a successful high school career Brady hopes to continue that success at the next level.
