The OHS Girls Golf team started their 2024 season with a win over Mankato East. There are a few returning golfers this year but they are still expected to have a successful season. Their season consists of 13 meets, seven of them being varsity only.

The captains representing the team this year are senior Danika Kaytor and sophomore Carmen Jirele. Jirele is a two year state qualifier and has had her fair share of the course as this is her third year on the team. Jirele said, “Our team goals this year are to continue to improve individually and as a team, make it to day two at sections along with being at the top of the Big 9 Conference.”

Last year the team placed fifth at sections, which was a huge accomplishment for the team and the program. Kaytor said, “With the team being on the younger side and already performing well it shows great potential for growth and success in future seasons.” It is easily visible that hard work was put in for such a mental game.

Head Coach Jason Kaytor said, “We had a lot of girls put in a lot of time in the off season and can’t wait to see the improvement.” When having a small team with young players, passion is shown through the love for the sport. Coach Jason Kaytor said, “In golf we get great student athletes. I get to work with some of the best kids around.”  Passion is not only shown through the sport, but it is also shown in the classroom.

The OHS Girls Golf team’s next meet is at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, April 22 at Winona.
