The Owatonna Girls Track and Field team has had a very successful season so far with a lot of big wins. The team has had a packed season full of meets for both JV and Varsity. Girls varsity next meet is the section meet.
Track is mostly made up of individual events, this gives people the opportunity to try new events. Brady said, “My favorite part of the season was trying the 300 hurdles and the 200 meter for the first time.” Track and Field is a great sport to showcase your abilities and experience things out of your comfort zone. The track team has had a lot of successful meets with very competitive teams where girls try new events and show off their abilities.
Midway through the season was the Hamline Elite Meet that is hosted annually at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. Senior Captain Carsyn Brady qualified for the meet in the 800m. What does that mean? Anyone else having success
Big Nine is just around the corner for Varsity. The JV Big Nine was held Monday, May 20. Girls track head coach Debby Gleason said, “JV Big Nine went well. It feels magical with all the excitement and celebrating all the PR’s and success this season from these hard working athletes.” All of the hard work the girls have been putting in throughout the season paid off as they won JV Big Nine. They out scored Northfield, the runner up, by over 100 points. Coach Gleason said, “My favorite part of the season is the last couple of meets when kids see all the hard work they’ve put into practice the last couple of months and reaching their goals.” Overall, it has been a great season for girls track.
Next up is the section meet that will take place Thursday, May 30th.
