The homecoming football game is always a pivotal event for the Huskies, especially this year. The third seeded Huskies faced the tenth seeded Mankato West Scarlets, according to Minnesota Football Hub. Owatonna football faced off against the Scarlets on Friday, Oct. 4, ending in a Huskie victory 28-14.
Many Huskie fans came out to support the Owatonna football team. The game was fast-paced and enthralling, with lots going on in both halves. Senior Darian Stransky said, “It was very fun and exciting to play in such a big game with so many people watching and being able to come out of it with a win.” The new Huskie Football stadium was full for the homecoming game.
Student section leader senior Lexie Klecker said, “The atmosphere in the student section this year has just been very outgoing and fun.” The theme for the student section was “Pink-Out.” The fans were covered in pink to cheer on the Huskies.
The game was full of major plays and huge moments. Football captain Blake Davison said, “Some big moments were the number of times we made West turn over the ball.” Owatonna football worked hard to perform in Friday’s game.
The Huskies went up by 14-0 in the first half of the game. The Huskies held the Scarlets to only scoring in the second half of the game. The Owatonna offense held strong by scoring four touchdowns but also had a very reliable defense. Head coach Jeff Williams said, “Defense was outstanding; they had under 100 yards rushing.”
The Huskies’ next game is Friday, Oct. 11 at Rochester John Marshall High School at 7 p.m.
