Owatonna Varsity girls soccer has been having an outstanding year. On Tuesday, Oct 15 the girls traveled to Lakeville North to take on the Panthers. This game was a very big game for the Owatonna girls as they have not been in this position since 2020. Coach Nate Gendron said, “It’s a special moment, this is only the 4th time in program history that we have been here, so it does not happen a lot and the fact we made it this far shows we can compete with anybody.”
The girls have played extremely hard to get to where they are today. The girls beat Farmington in the first round of sections 2-1, and Lakeville South in the second round of sections in a shootout. The games have been very close and very intense. Senior Captain Abby Shornock said, “The games have had a lot of high energy and good teamwork. We definitely have had to fight in each game, we were the underdogs for each one of the games so just staying focused and keeping our composure.”
The Owatonna girl’s team went into last night’s game very excited and ready. Senior Alia Kubicek said, “I am a little nervous, but I have some confidence after the last game against South, but I am really excited.” The girls played very hard and gave it their all. The girls unfortunately fell short to the North with the score being 3-0. Leaving the Owatonna Girls Varsity Soccer team walks away with second place in section 1AAA.
