Owatonna Football has made it past the second round of playoffs. The team had a first-round bye and are now into the Section 1AAAAA finals.
On Saturday, Oct. 26, the football team took on the New Prague Trojans. The Huskies ended the game with a 14-7 win. The game was a thriller, with the Huskies’ second touchdown coming in the fourth quarter.
Owatonna has worked hard to get past the first round. There were many big moments in the game. Senior captain Nolan Ginskey said, “I think the biggest moment was our 70-yard game-winning touchdown drive with less than a minute left in the game.”
The team had a closer game than they would have liked to have. They still came out on top but are working hard to prepare for Friday’s match against Rochester John Marshall. Defensive (OLB) and Special teams Coach Jerry Eggermont said, “We are pretty focused. JM is a very good opponent. It is a very, very good opponent. We played them the first time and we were able to come out with a win. We were down at halftime, but they are very talented, well coached and it is going to be a dog fight.”
The team has many goals for this coming Friday as it is a big game. Ginskey said, “[We want to] win a section chip. We know we are capable of it and have aspirations of a state run but know we need to take it one game at a time and can’t take anyone for granted or our season is over.”
The Huskies will take on John Marshall in the section final game on Friday, Nov. 1 at home at 7 p.m. The game will require a ticket bought as they do not accept activity passes.
