The OHS College and Career Fair is an event that helps students learn or try to figure out what they want to do after high school. There are many colleges or jobs that they can get into in the future at this event. This year OHS is hosting another annual College and Career Fair on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
OHS will be hosting about 70 different colleges and businesses from all over the country. Colleges attending include Grand Canyon University, University of Minnesota Twin Cities and University of Wisconsin Stout. Businesses attending include Federated Insurance, Mohs Contracting and the Wenger Corporation.
Events like the College and Career Fair help students figure out what programs different colleges or businesses are offering. Career Pathways adviser Mr. Brian Coleman said, “The primary reason for a student to go is to learn more about what’s out there and what type of opportunities exist, you know, within our community and surrounding areas.”
A main focus of the fair is to connect students with colleges. Students will find out if colleges offer certain programs they want. Senior Alejandro Mendez said, “I want to get knowledge and learn about the different opportunities.”
The College and Career Fair is helpful for more than just seniors. This event can help guide students in all different grades to figure out a bit about their future early. OHS staff hopes students find something interesting like a career option they might want to pursue. Junior Mubarak Hassan said, “I hope to get more knowledge on the different careers I am interested in”.
The main idea of a college and career fair is to figure out what students want to do after high school. It could be a job or going straight to college. Having interactions with people from these organizations will help to build up someone’s real world skills.
OHS wants to connect students with opportunities for their future. Colleges and businesses will be at OHS for this event throughout the school day on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
