The OHS Girls and Boys Hockey teams start their seasons in September and October. Each team has big goals for this upcoming season, with many things to accomplish and individual goals for each player.
For the OHS Boys Hockey team, they are having concerns about this upcoming season since they lost 13 seniors in the 2023-24 season. They are hoping to overcome this and train to their fullest potential during practices. Over the time span of October through November, the team has captains’ practices along with tryouts starting on Nov. 11. Head Coach Dennis Will said, “We have big changes in every position.”
During this time at the end of October, the team is keeping up with training during the captains’ practices leading up to tryouts. They continue practicing their skills and learning more as the days come. Coach Will is hoping to create the best team possible. As the season is beginning soon, Coach Will wants the team to develop and work together as a team at the highest level. They have goals for this season to go as far as they can in sections and the conference.
Last year they ended their season during the section semi-finals against Lakeville. To the team, it was important since they haven’t been able to beat a Lakeville team in a couple of years. Senior captain Blake Davison said, “It was a great way to prove to ourselves that we can play at a high level like that.”
OHS Varsity Boys Hockey has their first regular season game on Nov. 26 against New Prague at home.
As for the OHS Girls Hockey team, their captains’ practices began during the middle of October and their tryouts start on Oct. 28 and go through Oct. 31. They put in countless hours to achieve their goals for the season.
The team has high hopes for this season since they have a lot of returning players on the team this year. Junior captain Kendra Bogen said, “We have a lot of returners and lots of girls that want to succeed.”
Everyone on the team is extremely excited for this season to start. Some of the team puts in extra hours outside of the season to improve themselves for the following season. The Huskies had a strong season last year and hope to carry it with them this year. Senior captain Alia Kubicek said, “It was good for all of us to get back on the ice and get ready for the season.”
OHS Varsity Girls Hockey has their first home regular season game on Nov. 12 against Farmington.
