The OHS Music Department started their performing season this week. The ensembles have two upcoming concerts and one that happened previously. So far the Huskies, Varsity and Concert Band performed on Monday, Nov. 18. Huskies and Varsity Choir and Huskies and Varsity Orchestra perform on Monday, Nov. 25. Concert Choir, Treble Choir, Concert Band and Symphony Orchestra perform on Dec. 16.
Choir director Ms. Paula Asmus said,“There are a lot of [students] in this program, so I’m excited for some of the collaboration stuff with instrumentalists and both choirs.” Ms. Asmus believes the choirs are ready for this concert and is excited to see how it all comes together.
Choir has to separate the concerts. One with Huskies and Varsity Choir will be on Nov. 25. Concert and Treble Choirs will perform on Dec. 16. Junior Noelle Kubicek, member of Symphony Orchestra and Concert Band, said, “My favorite song has to be Hymn Song of Philip Bliss because, I may not play a lot, but it is such a beautiful song, and it flows so nicely.” Kubicek loves the different tempo changes and how her part makes so much sense.
Orchestra has Huskies and Varsity Orchestra perform on Nov. 25 along with Symphony Orchestra on Dec. 16. Orchestra director Ms. Sandra Justice said, “My favorite pieces are the toe tappers, the songs that have a good beat, that have energy that it doesn’t matter what genre they‘re from but you can feel that story being told.” Ms. Justice believes the orchestras are set for the concert, and she is excited to see how the concert goes.
Huskies Band and Varsity Band have a concert together on Nov. 18. The Concert Band is performing with Concert Choir, Treble Choir and Symphony Orchestra on Dec. 16. Band director Mr. Peter Guenther said, “Huskies Band are doing two pieces that the performers are excited about, one of which is on Gene ‘The Blue Eyed Samurai’. The other song is called Angry Beavers. It’s like if ‘The Incredibles’ went on a bad road trip.”
Mr. Guenther said that he is excited for this concert because this, besides the Pops Concert, is the one time when all the bands get together to play their programs. Mr. Guenther is not worried about the concert because he sees concerts as a celebration of hard work.
Throughout the next few weeks these concerts will be filled with talented students ready to celebrate the work they put into all the songs they have worked on. The concert dates are Monday, Nov. 25 and Monday, Dec. 16.
