The Owatonna Girls Varsity Hockey team is coached by head coach Tony Cloud and assisted by Mike Vetsch, Chloe Schmidt, and Clayton Curwin. The girls have played four games and are currently sitting 0-4 on the season.
The OHS Girls Hockey team looks very different this year as they do not have a JV team. The varsity team consists of 20 girls. The team is made up of many returning players as well as some new faces. The girls are hoping to accomplish many goals this year. Junior captain Kendra Bogen said, “Our goal for this season is to finish top three in the conference and make it to section finals.”
The Owatonna Girls Hockey team took on Farmington in their home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 13. The girls ended up losing 2-7 after battling hard. The girls worked hard but could not come out on top. Senior captain Alia Kubicek said, “I think that we have had good games and have battled hard but we just can’t get the puck in the back of the net. We have done good but things just haven’t bounced our way.”
The girls played three tough teams and battled very hard but could not come out with a win. In the season’s first game, the team traveled to Fogerty Arena to take on Blaine. The team lost 3-4 with many good things happening as it was only the first game. They then took on Farmington and recently took on their rivals from Northfield. The team hosted Northfield for their cancer night. The team worked hard and never gave up but were unable to secure victory. The girls also took on Hastings which resulted in a 1-3 loss. Coach Cloud said, “We are better than the results we have seen. We know that as a team, we know that as a coaching staff, that even though we have had some struggles as far as record goes early on we know that we are capable.”
OHS Girls Hockey’s next home game is Dec. 5 at the Four Seasons Arena taking on Winona at 7 pm.
