The OHS Gymnastics team has recently gotten a new gymnasium with new equipment. They got this new gym because they needed more space and much more seating for meets. Previously, they practiced at the Owatonna Gymnastic Club (OGC)’s gym.
Now, the new gym is at the old OHS building. It is in the main gym. Their old gym was a shared space with OGC teams, and they now can have a gym all to themselves with no worry of others. It will be easier to practice with no distractions. It was hard to practice with the limited space given plus the other club teams there would make it even more difficult for the gymnasts to do certain things.
Senior Averie Roush said, “The new gym is great. I love that we finally have our own space. Even though all the equipment is new and stiff, it will be fun to break everything in.”
The gymnastics team is experiencing even more changes beyond their new gym. The team previously lost two of their seniors last season but have new upcoming gymnasts. They are determined to give their all with their new members. Their goal is to go as far as possible in competition.
OHS Girls Gymnastics did not make it to state as a team last year but had seven girls who made it to the individual state tournament. The team is determined to achieve their goals with a tremendous start. The OHS Girls Gymnastics team has been getting ready for their 2024-25 season by having off-season practices on Tuesdays and in the Faribault gym on Sundays. They also have been doing off-season workouts at Owatonna Fitness to maintain their endurance and stay fit.
Roush said, “New seasons always have a different start due to the loss of seniors and the new gymnasts. This season specifically, we are determined to make it to state and prove ourselves that we are so much more capable than we were last year.”
The team is flipping themselves into this new season even better than before. Their first meet is away against Austin on Friday, Dec. 6 at 6:30 p.m.
