Armfield was born in London and her first book is called “Salt Slow” which is a collection of short stories. She has also won multiple awards for her books. “Private Rites” is a novel about three sisters who are coming to terms with their father’s death and start to grow a stronger relationship with each other. The sisters have been living separately until their father’s death ties them back together. They then find a revelation in his will that shatters the bond they were rebuilding with one another. At the same time, the characters find out facts about their mother’s disappearance that are more sinister than they thought. “Private Rites” is supposed to publish Dec. 3, 2024.
Another new novel is a romantic suspense story by Mia Sheridan called “The Broken Places.” This book is about an inspector and an FBI agent who is tracking down an unknown drug, but their attraction and secrets keep getting in the way. This book is expected to be released on Dec. 1, 2024. “The Broken Places” received an ARC (advanced readers copy) rating 3.94/5 stars.
“Dust” is a coming-of-age novel about finding one’s place in the world. The author is Alison Stine. Stine has published in the New York Times, The Atlantic and more. The female lead character of this book is Thea. She is a partially deaf teen who questions everything she knows about love, her family and her future. “Dust” is expected to release Dec. 3, 2024. Those who have received early access to the book rated it an average of 4.13/5 stars.
“Heavenly Tyrant” by Xiran Jay Zhao is the second book in the “Iron Window” series. This book takes place after book one, where the characters make some devastating decisions and experience severe loss. The main character Zetian finds herself in a position of power in Huaxia. In the story’s plot, Zetian struggles with her given power and how to balance it all. “Heavenly Tyrant” is supposed to be released on Dec. 24, 2024. Certain critics were lucky enough to receive the early copy, giving “Heavenly Tyrant” an average score of 4.26/5 stars.
