The Owatonna Adapted Floor Hockey team has been working hard to start the season. CW Wolfe, assisted by Scott Seykora, is the team’s head coach. The team kicked off its season on Dec. 17 at Owatonna Middle School and is 0-1 after their first game.
The team gained seven new members this season after losing four seniors last year. This season, the team has a few new goals.
Coach Seykora said, “Well, last year we only won one game so our goal is to win more than one. The biggest thing with us is participation. We want everybody to see improvement in their skills and it’s not just your two or three good guys, we want to try and get everybody up to a playable level.”
The team loves to play the sport while also being with their friends. Senior Mustaf Hilowle said his favorite part is the team aspect. This game is more than just a game. The team gets to have fun while still playing with their friends. Jesse Fonner said, “[His goal is to] just have fun.”
Sitting in the stands, the fans’ energy and the players’ enthusiasm is palpable. With such an energized audience it makes the entire experience enjoyable for all. Coach Seykora said, “[My favorite part of coaching is] the atmosphere. The kids just love it. The sportsmanship is great in the sport of Adapted Floor Hockey. You know the other team scores, and our fans cheer for them and they cheer for us. It is just a cool atmosphere.”
The program of Owatonna Adapted Floor Hockey is deeply supported and appreciated. All the players showcase raw determination and joyful spirits on and off the ice.
The team’s next home game is Jan. 14 at 4:30 p.m. at the Owatonna Middle School vs Lakeville.
