The OHS Dance Team has its final community show for the 2024-2025 season just around the corner. Throughout the whole season, they have been preparing and putting in immense dedication all for this moment to showcase their hard work to the Owatonna community. They have a few dances that they are going to perform during this showcase. The team has an outstanding view of how they are going to perform for this event.
Sophomore Addy Schaner said, “My favorite part of the community show is just overall performing and just showcasing our dances throughout the year.”
This special event in the Owatonna community is not just for the Owatonna Dance Team. It also includes other dance studios such as Just For Kix, Unlimited Possibilities Dance Studio (UPDS) and Jill Hoggard Academy of Dance.
Leading up to the community show, the dance team hosts a little kids’ camp where the ODT teaches kids (K-5th) a dance that they will be performing at the community show. At the community show they start off with the little kids performing the dance they learned.
Junior Emily McMasters said, “It’s really fun because we just show them what the dance team is about and hopefully recruit some of them in the future.”
The ODT has varsity kick and jazz dances, junior varsity kick and jazz dances and their b-squad is only going to be showcasing their jazz dance. During this show, there is also a “boy-girl” dance in which a dancer can choose a boy to perform this dance with them. They have performed these dances plenty of times throughout their season. Being able to showcase all their dances to the Owatonna community for one last time is super memorable to the seniors who graduate this 2025 school year.
The community show also gives recognition to all the seniors at the end of the show. It consists of the seniors saying how many years they have been dancing, their favorite memory and the team giving thanks to all the seniors. The seniors also get flowers at the end of the community show to end their final dance season at OHS.
Senior Norah Kath said, “I think for me what I’m more excited about for the community show is that all the seniors get recognized and it is kind of like our final hurrah with the whole team.”
The dance community show is going to be held in the OHS Federated Gymnasium on Feb. 1 at noon. To get into the community show, tickets will be sold at the door. The tickets are priced at $5 for students and $10 for adults.
