OHS Boys Basketball has had many games so far. They have fought through this season and have worked extremely hard to be where they are. Their record this season currently is 10-9. This season has been thrilling, with each game bringing surprises and stand out performances. As the season goes on, the team continues to build on their successes.
Senior Captain Darian Stransky said, “The biggest battle we have faced so far is a recent slump in our season that we were having. We continued to fight and keep working to make ourselves better. We just beat Austin, and I think we are going to continue to stay motivated and keep working so we can continue winning.”
Even though the team has had struggles, that does not mean they gave up. The Huskies kept working hard and stayed motivated through this season. They make sure to keep practices fun and enjoyable while still making them better and hope to succeed. When the Huskies are up against tough opponents they make sure to discuss how the opponent will defend with hopes to go into the game with confidence and knowledge of what the opposing team will do.
Head coach Joshua Williams said, “With how we are playing this year, most of our emphasis has been on ‘us’ and what we need to do each and every game.”
After games, the team watches film and talks about the things they did well and also mistakes made from the previous games, even if it was a win or a loss. After they reflect on their games they strive to fix those mistakes and get better.
Senior Cole Kruschke said, “Our goals for this team is to compete for a section title and state title… We need to compete together with toughness.”
Last year, the Huskies were not able to make it past the first round of sections, but this year they are set on making it farther as long as they keep the momentum going. They are determined to accomplish these goals and hope to make it farther than previous seasons.
The Huskies next game will be against the Mankato East Cougars at home on Friday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
