This winter, a ton of students and teachers at OHS have been having car problems. There have been people whose battery died, people who slid on icy roads and ended up wrecking a rim on their car and people whose catalytic converter has gone bad. Winter may play a big role in this.

There have been crashes due to winter weather and slippery roads while others have had issues with mechanical issues unrelated to collisions. OHS junior Harrison Liedtke said, “I ran my car into a curb at the intersection of Elm and McKinley.”
Liedtke explained that his tires slipped as it was snowing for the last hour when the crash happened. Liedtke’s car is a 2009 Chevy Impala that has not had any previous issues but it was a rental that got sold to him. The damage consisted of the knuckle and axel of the wheel.
Some drivers have experienced dead batteries or car battery electrical problems. Another student who has had car problems is junior Zeanik Sandoval-Ritchie.
Sandoval-Ritchie said, “I was driving to the bowling alley when I hit a part of a curb. It was snowing and the roads were kind of icy and basically what happened is I slid on the ice and hit the curb.”
He mentioned that his wheel was indented inwards, and his wheel and axle were damaged. His car is a 2008 Volkswagen Beetle. It was not damaged to a point where he had to get it looked at. He was able to drive with it and he pointed out how his car had no notable issues beforehand.
Roads are beginning to be extremely icy, so people are sliding around roads. To prevent accidents, drivers should slow down and be more cautious during the winter months.
