Marvel, a fictional universe with thousands of different superheroes and super-villains and more than thirty games has a new game, exploding off release. Marvel Rivals is a third person shooter, 6v6 style game created by Net Ease Games in collaboration with Marvel Games. It was released on Dec. 6, 2024.
Being announced on March 2, 2024, “Marvel Rivals” left many people excited for its release, and when it did release, it climbed all the way to the very top of the most played games, filling every social media app with posts and comments. It gave many streamers and YouTubers a new game to try out, bringing in even more people.
Social studies teacher Mr. Jacob Kringen said “I wished it had come out when I was playing video games more, looks fun.”
However, many believe this game will die off or lose its players in a short amount of time, and even some people want it to because it takes the place of another game called “Overwatch.” The question is, how long will “Marvel Rivals” last? It is unsure, but right now this game is massive.
According to STEAMCHARTS, a month and a half after its release “Marvel Rivals” is placed at number four for the most currently played games with 247,702 players on Steam / PC. It is above “GTA 5,” which is at sixth place with 154,628 players. In the last 30 days, “Marvel Rivals” gained 10.10% more players on Steam, with its highest all-time peak player count being 642,333.
“Overwatch 2,” the game replaced by “Marvel Rivals,” has a current player count of just below 25,000 on Steam and an all-time peak of 75,361 players in the last 17 months. Compared to Marvel Games new release, they are far behind, especially considering it has only been out for under two months. Many people blame the developers for its downfall, and the fact that they were not listening to their audience. People started considering “Overwatch 2” a ruined game even before “Marvel Rivals” was released, practically making it doomed.
“Marvel Rivals” includes some of Marvel’s most beloved characters like Spider-Man, Iron-Man, Groot and many more. However, the only way to play this game is by using PS5, Xbox series X/S or Windows.
