The Owatonna High School Girls Basketball team ended their 24-25 season with their game on March 1 against Rochester Mayo. The team had a 22-6 record for their overall season, and they broke their win streak record by winning 17 games in a row. Another major point in their season is that they ended at the number six seed overall in their section.
There are five seniors on the team this year that will graduate in 2025. Those five are Abby Shornock, Lexie Klecker, Ava Brooks Olsen, Maryn Pool and Preslee Hodgman. These five seniors have made numerous memories throughout their basketball career. Captain Ava Olsen Brooks said, “My favorite memory was winning 17 games and tying the school record and spending it with my favorite girls and just making the best of it!”
Having 17 wins in a row, after each win, the team would sing the school song in the locker room to represent their win. To achieve these goals of tying the school record it took a lot of hard work and dedication.
The team had a lot of strength throughout the entire season such as having a good defense, working together as a team, trusting each other on the court and overall out-working the opposing team to gain their wins. Captain Lexie Klecker said, “My favorite memory is being able to grow up and play with my best friends every weekend.”
At the last game of the year for the girls basketball team the Owatonna community packed the stands and showed their support to the team and cheered loudly for them even though the section game was away. The Owatonna basketball fans went above and beyond at away games. When the game was over the coaches expressed their gratitude to the team for the hard work they put into the season. The girls basketball team ended their 24-25 season with a memorable season and had an amazing turnout for their season.
