OHS Speech Team season is about ¾ the way done.
Their home meet was on Saturday, March 8, while Big 9 is going to be on Thursday, March 13. Big 9 happens after school into the night. Head speech coach Ms. Marcia Anderson said, “The fact that we are hosting Big 9 five days after our home meet is a little stressful, but I’m excited.”
Ms. Anderson said she is really pleased with how the season has gone so far with a lot of novice speakers putting their all into it and having it pay off well. With some of the novices making either novice, next-in or varsity final

s in competitions. She believes veterans are doing awesome alongside them.
Ms. Anderson also mentioned how she loves the poetry program that Lydia Beland put together and the novice duo of Kiah Clauson and Brooklyn Gonzalez doing a slam poetry piece that she loves. There are many kinds of speeches she has seen, but those are some that have stood out.
With the OHS home meet, the sixth of the season, last weekend, Big 9 follows very shortly. Junior Vitaly Bauer said, “I’m really excited for Big 9. We’re gonna get some really good teams coming in the Big 9 district, and it’s just gonna be a nice experience to get to see a bunch of these big teams in this big high school.”
Bauer believes their season so far has been going pretty well, knowing they lost a lot of people but gained a lot of new people who are making up for it. And at least from what he knows in his category, Humorous, he has had some really good novices that have even made it to regular or varsity finals. Bauer thinks OHS Speech has a good rest of the season ahead.
Speeches across all categories will be performed at the Big 9 competition at OHS. Big 9 Speech will take place on March 13 around OHS after school.
