OHS STEM coordinator Dr. Tom Meagher is retiring from the Owatonna School District after 30 years. Dr. Meagher spent 8 years before coming to Owatonna teaching all over the country. He has taught and made an impact at many schools including Wayzata High School, the Navajo reservation in Tuba City, reservations in Arizona and many more. Additionally, he started the girls soccer team at OHS.

Dr. Meagher is incredibly educated and received his most recent degree, his Ph.D, from the University of Minnesota in science education. Dr. Meagher also teaches at the University of Minnesota, and he has been teaching karate for 37 years.
In retirement, Dr. Meagher plans to continue teaching at the University of Minnesota. He is going to continue projects to work with the MN Pollution Control Agency. He is also in the process of producing a game that will teach kids how to speak Ojibwe. Lastly he is working on writing three books.
Dr. Meagher’s piece of advice for students is “The important thing that has helped me is that you can do anything in your life. It’s just a matter of figuring out how. Don‘t talk yourself out of it. If someone else can do it, so can you.”
