This season, Senior Goalie Scarlet Schwartz made school history by reaching 100 saves for the Huskies Girls Soccer team in her first year starting on varsity. This is a remarkable achievement that shows how dedication and hard work will lead to lasting results.
Everyone has big accomplishments in their life, this is what Schwartz has to say about how it felt when she reached her goal, ”It was actually during half time during the Mankato East game when I realized I hit 100 saves. I was very excited when I heard it and honestly was a little in disbelief.” She was very proud to achieve this milestone her senior year and will cherish this memory forever.

Junior Captain Norah Cederstorm says, “We’re confident in Scarlet’s abilities. She works incredibly hard during practice, so in high-pressure moments during games, there’s no doubt she’ll come through and make the save when it matters most”. This is a powerful statement that highlights the team’s trust in their goalkeeper.
Before stepping into competition athletes always have their favorite pregame ritual to get them locked in. Schwartz says, “How I prepare myself mentally before stepping onto the field is with my teammates when we do our prayer circle before every game and right before the game starts me and my defensive line do our handshakes.” This shows the empathy she has for her teammates, and that they are always thankful to be out on the field doing what they love.
You can see how special the bond is between the players on this team. It is because they play for each other and not just themselves. Their positive energy and words always encourage each other to do better. This is what Schwartz has to say about what it means to be a Huskie, “It has gave me a lot more confidence throughout myself and it has encouraged me to not just be better for myself, but for others.”
Owatonna always has great coaches. They help build athletes into great people so they are set up for the future. Scarlet has grown in many ways throughout her high school experiences. Coach Jeremy Wood says, “Over the past couple of seasons we’ve seen Scarlet become increasingly more confident. That confidence to step off her line and attack the ball or command the box was a crucial element of her game this year. Also, the confidence to give her teammates direction and become a vocal leader during the game, and in team talks, is a great indicator for how she’ll continue in her life beyond soccer.
The Girls Soccer team went into sections as the five seed, playing at Rochester Mayo who was the four. The final score ended up in a 1-3 loss, but they had a great year and the team is excited to use this season as a way to set themselves up for success in the 2026 season.
