Earlier this morning, on December 12, just an hour away from Owatonna, there was a school shooting in Stewartville Minnesota. Superintendent Belinda Selfors confirmed this shooting occurred at five am today taking place at the Stewartville High School/Middle School in their parking lot. The school cancelled all classes today due to this shooting, but has yet to release many details about the situation.

The deputies from around that area are investigating the situation further. According to Fox 9 they said, “Further details have not been made available, but the sheriff’s office said there is no threat to students or the public at this time.”

Students here at OHS wonder if the shooter involved in this incident is in custody or yet to be detained. This shooting is too close to home for many, in Owatonna the community is concerned if a ‘copy cat’ shooting might happen here in Owatonna.

Brooke Hagel is a senior at Owatonna High School. Hagel joined OHS Magnet because her cousin was involved and she wanted to meet new people. Hagel has been involved in Magnet for 2 years now. Hagel plans to attend college for 2 years and stay close to home, majoring in the dental field. Hagel is also in the OHS Yearbook and an OHS cheerleader for football and basketball. Hagel enjoys going for walks, hiking, and being outside with her golden retriever, June. Hagel has been working at the Blast for 2 years and truly loves being around others and enjoying each other’s company. Hagel is excited to see what the OHS Magnet year brings and all the new voices that she will be able to connect with and hear from.

Attley Klemmensen, Writer

Attley Klemmensen is a senior at Owatonna High School. Other than being involved in Magnet, at OHS, Klemmensen is involved in DECA, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Student Council, National Honor Society, Yearbook, Lacrosse, and Soccer. She joined Magnet because she heard from her peers it was a fun club to be a part of and she wanted to be more vocal throughout OHS. Klemmensen plans to become a better writer throughout Magnet and hopes to become more well-versed in multimedia. Some fun facts about her: her favorite movie is Rio and she loves chocolate ice cream. She one day hopes to go on her dream vacation to Brazil.
