During the week of Feb. 9th through the 13th, Owatonna High School was filled with school spirit as students celebrated Snow Week 2026 with the theme, Blizzard on the Beach. Throughout the week, the hallways were packed with students showing off creative outfits that matched each day’s theme, adding excitement and energy to the week ahead.
Snow Week began on Monday, February 9th, with the “Cozy Beach Bum” theme. Students wore pajama pants, slippers, hoodies and relaxed beach-style outfits to celebrate. Later that night, Powderpuff Volleyball took place in the gym where many students came out to support their classmates. The loud crowd and high energy helped make the event a fun and exciting way to kick off the week.

One of the major highlights of the week was the lip sync battles at the pep fest. The top five Snow Week candidates competed in fun and entertaining performances. The crowd reacted with cheers and laughter as students went head-to-head on stage in front of the whole student body. Another memorable part of the pep fest was the mattress game, played by the top 12 snow week candidates. It added to the excitement and kept the energy high throughout the event.
After the lipsync battles, Amal Mohamed was crowned Snow Week Queen and Boldin Krause was crowned Snow Week King. When asked about wrapping up Snow Week, Mohamed said Snow Week went by “faster than expected” and shared that she was “so happy my peers voted for me because I did not expect to win,” adding that she felt honored by the support and grateful to be part of such a memorable celebration with her classmates.
Krause said, “Snow Week has been going really well so far. I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on my lip sync and a lot of congratulations for winning, which has been really nice. Being chosen by the school as Snow King feels amazing. It was already really cool to make it into the top 12 and then the top five, but winning the whole thing feels incredibly rewarding.”
Throughout the week, students were also able to buy Crush Cans during their lunch. The cans were anonymously delivered to students during the fourth period of the day. Many kids looked forward to receiving their cans during class, and it was a fun way to surprise friends and spread kindness around the school.
The Medallion Hunt is one of the most exciting traditions at OHS because it brings students together. For several days, the office sends out clues to find the hidden medallion that students are able to look for throughout the school day. Students look in hallways, near lockers, under staircases and anywhere they think it could be hidden. Friends team up, share ideas and work together to solve each clue.
This year, Senior Mercy Mwanga found the medallion. After days of searching, his determination paid off. The Medallion Hunt once again showed how fun it can be when students come together.
As the week continued, students dressed in all white for Tuesday’s “Blizzard Out (White Out)” theme. On Wednesday, the “Tropical” theme brought sunglasses, hats, and bright colors throughout the school. Thursday’s “Bling Out” theme stood out with flashy accessories, bold outfits, and lots of sparkle. The week wrapped up with “Ski vs. Swim” on Friday, where students wore ski gear, swimsuits over clothes, and a mix of winter and beach accessories.
Overall, Snow Week brought students together, strengthened school spirit and created lasting memories for everyone involved and watching.
