Spring break at Owatonna High School took place from March 30 to April 3. However, it felt a lot longer than that because students also had Friday, March 27, off from school because it was the end of the quarter. This allowed students to be able to begin their break early and enjoy extra time away from school.
That additional day gave students more flexibility, especially for those planning trips. Leaving earlier meant less stress about missing assignments and more time to fully enjoy being away. After weeks of tests, homework and a busy schedule, it was the perfect time for students to have this break and be something they could look forward to.
Students spent their time off in a variety of ways, depending on their plans and opportunities. Some traveled out of state or even out of the country, while others stayed home and took advantage of the relaxing time to do the thing that made them happy.

Junior Grady Roush said, “Over spring break I stayed at home and hung out with my dog Ernie-Yoda, and when all my friends got back from their trips I hung out with all of them for the last few days of break.”
For students like Roush, staying home didn’t mean missing out. Many found that having time to relax without a packed schedule was exactly what they needed. Whether it was sleeping in, playing video games, watching movies, or spending time with friends and family, many still found it enjoyable because staying home still gave them a break from their usual routine.
Other students chose to travel and experience something different during their time off. Warmer destinations were a popular choice, especially after all of this unpredictable Minnesota weather.

Junior Owen Kubicek enjoyed the warm weather and new experiences in Cancun, Mexico. He said, “I enjoyed my trip because it was warm and very fun. We got to do an excursion and we went snorkeling and took a boat to an island. Me and my friend Kade Hullopeter had a good time golfing on a unique course.”
Trips like Kubicek’s gave students the chance to step away from their everyday habits and try new activities. From beaches to excursions, travelling offered a mix of relaxation and fun that many students look forward to during spring break each year.
Even though students spent their time in different ways, there were some clear similarities. Most students used the break to catch up on rest, spend time with people they care about and take a mental break from school.
Overall, spring break served as an important pause in the school year. Whether students stayed home or traveled far, the week gave them a chance to recharge before heading into the final stretch. With the end of the school year approaching, many students returned feeling refreshed and prepared for what’s ahead.
