In school people often ask “What were your…highs and lows, ups and downs, ebbs and flows, peaks and valleys, or pows and wows?” However you may say it, sharing good things and bad things is often sought over in school, sports, etc. But, let’s focus on the highs as we head towards the end of the year. Some good parts of this year/week/day from Owatonna High School students were…
“We are almost done with school and I am excited to graduate! Also taco Tuesday!” said Brynn Routh, a senior at OHS.
Kaia Swenson, freshman says a highlight from this week is that, “I’m getting cleared to play lacrosse today!”
“ICDC was such a highlight this year”, Jae Herzog, sophomore at OHS said. Later Dylann Norrid, a senior, agreed saying, “I loved ICDC and going to Atlanta.”
Owen Kubicek, a junior said, “”

“Having fun with friends at Beaver Lake.” said Lance Bretl, a senior at OHS.
A highlight from Cecilia Bauer’s week is, “Since I have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow I get to skip some school!”
“Being at lacrosse with my team, because my team makes practices, games, and dinners enjoyable even when we have to run a lot”, said senior, Ella Henriksen.
Sofie Bjeverskov, a foreign exchange student at OHS says, “Getting to experience American culture.”
A simple answer from senior Amelia Baldwin, “Getting to see my friends.”
Senior, Jessica Fisher said, “Getting to leave school early for track.”
Phoenix Storm, a senior, said, “That I’m graduating soon.”
“Not having to work Thursday or Friday, getting a week off.” said Kate Cowell, a junior at OHS.
Bilal Said, senior says, “Getting to see my friend Mano [Luqman Abdullahi].”
Lots of students find joy in traveling, sports, food, and hanging out with friends. These small things are so important. Many students focused on the past year as a whole, but they often also found joy in the everyday things. School can be challenging and even worse is having to balance it with sports, work, social life, well-being, etc. So remembering these small moments or big ones is a great way to keep moving towards the end of the school year, because those little joys make the struggles worth it!
Sophomore, Ty Belmore simply said a highlight is, “Chipotle”
Senior Gabrielle Simon said, “I’m grateful to hang out with all my friends and cannot wait to spend the summer with them.”
Mason Pelinka, a senior, says, “My trip to Kauai Hawaii.”
Sudeysi Ismail, a junior, said, “One highlight of my school year was definitely making new friends and getting closer with people I didn’t expect to.”
OHS freshman Isla Torapour says, “Getting ice cream after practice.”
This week a highlight from Presley Schammel, a freshman, was, “Getting a massage.”
Avery Pegg, a freshman, says, “Doing good on my math test.”
A junior, Lee Smith says a highlight this school year was, “Making memories with my senior friends and Johnny [Nolan Johnson].”
Calvin Meiners, sophomore says, “I passed Pre Calc with an A.”
Senior, Ellie Meiners said, “almost graduating.”
For some students thinking of the good things is easy and simple, for others it can be rather challenging, but every student smiled when they finally thought of their highlight. It is important to focus on the good things and not dwell on the bad, so as OHS students finish off the year hopefully they continue to appreciate all the good coming their way!
