Saying goodbye can be hard for some people to do, especially having to say goodbye to those that make an impact on one’s life. Being in high school can often bring many goodbyes especially towards the end of the school year. Goodbyes to teachers, classmates, ending classes, etc. are all part of the end of each year of schooling because the next year will feel like something different. Although seniors will be leaving Owatonna High School, everyone can relate to starting a new chapter in their life whether that means leaving OHS or by simply transitioning into the next grade level.
Seniors will be starting the next chapter of their lives regarding leaving OHS. Some may choose to enter the workforce, continue their education at college, dedicate their service, take a gap year and much more.
Juniors will be beginning the chapter of their senior year next year. Although that can seem scary, it can be an exciting transition. They will become the leaders of OHS next year and should be excited to represent OHS in the best way possible.
Current junior Mickenzie Richer is excited to begin her senior year. She said, “I’m looking forward to making the most of all of the lasts that come with senior year and spending time with the people I’ve grown close to throughout high school. I’m also excited for senior events, robotics season, and making memories before graduation.”
For sophomores, going into junior year can be nerve-racking because it can seem like an awkward phase of being halfway through high school and not getting to be the ruler of the school quite yet.
Although going into junior year may seem stressful at first, Richer wants students to know, “Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and get involved. Junior year can be stressful at times, but it goes by fast, so make time for friends, activities, and memories too. Balance is important.”
Freshmen can be excited towards the end of the school year, as they just wrapped up a big transitioning point in their lives. Being sophomores next year will hopefully be easier for them to navigate through OHS as they have been able to get used to high school life this year.
Current freshman Adelynn Miller gave an insight on her freshman year. She said, “I loved all of the new clubs, getting to meet different people, fun activities and all of the sports opportunities.”
The upcoming freshmen class will be starting an exciting but new chapter in their lives as they leave behind middle school and enter the high school world. This might be overwhelming but it marks an important transition in their lives as they can join more clubs and be involved in the school community even more next year.
Miller’s advice to the incoming freshmen would be, “Make sure you study and get all of your work done because everything counts and it affects your GPA and colleges look at past grades.”
Although each grade may have a different feeling regarding the school year coming to a close, all students can relate to one important piece of information: it is okay to not know what the future holds, but as time goes on, things will fall into place. Enjoy every moment of high school because students may not realize it now, but senior year will come quicker than one may think.
