New Year, Same Goals
Over the course of the new year, a new season is upon us. The 2017 Adaptive Floor Hockey Team has started their new season. The sport is a very great way for our Owatonna high school students with special needs to find their way onto a team of their own and for our students and fans to help support these students.
After a very talented group of seniors graduated from last years team, the 2017 team is still a very talented group that is off to a hot start. The team is coached by John Scheil, C.W. Wolfe, and Kyle Burns. The team has a senior class that is a force to be reckoned with and is led by captains Sam Gefre, Nolan Engebretson and Abby Donahe. This team holds an impressive 2-1 start including a very gut-wrenching performance against New Prague. Their first game of the season they won by a whopping 25-1 victory against Minneapolis Edison. Engebretson looked very impressive in the net, only allowing the other team to score one goal. The second game the Huskies suffered a 5-12 loss against South Washington, but regained a winning record in an overtime win against New Prague Jan.23.
The team looks to compete at a highly competitive level this year and once again make a run to the state tournament. Senior captain Sam Gefre commented on his visions for the team saying, “Our goal is to go to state this year.” The team has a long way to go to get to its typical state performance level of play, but they are definitely up for the task. The next game will be held at OJHS on Monday, January 30th, 2017.
