David Bowie

If internet users did not know about David Bowie before, they sure do now. David Bowie’s death was one that received a multitude of attention not only by those who listened to his music, but also ones who looked up to him as an individual and what he essentially stood for. Bowie worked in many areas of the entertainment industry as a singer and songwriter, record producer and an actor. His career in music began to take off when he released his first hit single Space Odyssey in 1969. However, his first American No. 1 single, co-written with Carlos Alomar and John Lennon, Fame, didn’t drop drop in 1975. Bowie lived by many different principles than most rock artists of his time, refusing to conform to what industries expected from him and avoided clichés. A line from his biography said, “Bowie writes and performs what he wants, when he wants.” This method worked for him, seeing that throughout his music career Bowie sold around 140 million records worldwide. After an incredibly successful career, releasing 24 studio albums and inspiring many, David Bowie battled cancer for 18 months before passing away on Jan. 10, 2016.
