OHS Concert Choir rehearses during class

In the past month, the OHS Concert Choir has been busy. On Feb. 5, they gave a concert at St. John’s Lutheran Church, performing with The Singers, a special guest ensemble. The Singers are a professional choral ensemble based out of Minneapolis, Minn. The OHS Concert Choir had the opportunity to sing with this group as well as the opportunity to hear the professional choral ensemble live.

On March 5, the OHS Concert Choir  gave another concert at St. John’s Lutheran Church. At this concert, the OHS Concert Choir sang their own pieces, but also sang with the Concordia College Choir. Senior Concert Choir member Reed Tucker said, “It is cool to see the progression of growth from high school choirs all the way up to professional choirs.” The OHS Concert Choir is very fortunate to have both college and professional choral ensembles perform in Owatonna.

On March 10, all three of the OHS Choirs, as well as the elementary school All-City Choir, put on an impressive performance in the OHS auditorium. The All-City Choir is made up of various students from the different elementary schools in Owatonna. This concert was a great chance for the elementary singers to experience a choral group at the high school level, and a wonderful chance for the high school singers to mentor a younger singer.

The OHS music department has many opportunities throughout the year to bring in professional or collegiate ensembles to perform at concerts. These concerts benefit all of the music students at OHS, showing them what they can do if they want to pursue a career in music, or if they want to participate in musical ensembles throughout their life.

As more concerts continue to happen throughout the month, make sure to attend one and support the OHS Music Department and Concert Choir.
