The 2015-2016 OHS Speech season came to a close for all participants, besides Ava Stockwell and Sheldon Jensen who are off to state! Stockwell received second place in Great Speeches and Jensen was just behind, receiving third. The top three participants in each event qualify for state. Stockwell said, “My speech is structured very differently than the others. I never know how to compare myself to them. With six people in my event and three being from Lakeville North I knew I needed to compete well. After a rough run-through that morning, I had no idea what was going to happen. After finals I was fairly confident I would be within the top three.”

Stockwell and Jensen will be in the top 24 of the states competitors in the Great Speeches category.  The top three from each AA section competes. Competition at state is tough, Jensen said, “I think state will be a shock to the system, I have listened to  the same speeches all season but now I will hear the best speeches in the state, It will be fun!” Coach Lauren Gendron said, “I am very proud of these two and all of their accomplishments. Competition at State will be tough, but I know that Ava and Sheldon will do great.”

The Speech State Send-off will be on Friday at 2:40 in Mrs. Gendron’s room, B-107. It is open anyone who would like to wish the team good luck!

The State Speech Tournament will take place on April 15 and 16 and is held at Lakeville North High School, the first round starts at 10:15 p.m.
