Owatonna High School’s Kalley Schwab is going to the State diving tournament for the third year in a row. Since Schwab is a senior, this year is a different experience compared to the past. Schwab said, “It’s different knowing that this is the last year I’ll be up at state.” Even though the state meet will be the last one of her career, Schwab said, “It feels awesome, knowing I could finish off my senior year at state.” Every year, the tournament is held at the University of Minnesota pool. Going to state is something that   every athlete wants to be a part of and compete at. Schwab said, “The whole atmosphere up there is really exciting, and upbeat. It’s a very good place to compete, the U of M pool is really nice.”

Schwab has been diving since she was in seventh grade. With this being her last season as a Husky Schwab said, “I had a pretty good season. I steadily increased my scores, and it was good overall. When it comes to meets, athletes become very superstitious. From how they get ready for the meet, to the song they listen to right before, to something as little as how dry their legs are. That is just the case for Schwab. Before each dive, she goes over to the board three divers before her, makes sure her legs are completely dry, and then she goes over her dive mechanics on the side of the board. When she is about to dive, she counts to three in her head and goes. Schwab will compete at the U of M on Nov. 18.
