Homecoming band halftime show, Oasis

Friday Sept. 30, the OHS Marching Band will be performing Oasis at the halftime show for Owatonna’s homecoming football game at 7 p.m.

On Friday Sept. 30, the OHS Marching Band will be performing at the halftime show for Owatonna’s homecoming football game at 7 p.m. The students in marching band have been putting an immense amount of time and effort into creating an amazing performance for this year, and have certainly accomplished the feat. Look forward to their show, Oasis, featuring Arabian flavors with the color guard dressing up as Arabian dancers and a serpent theme running throughout the entire performance.

Last summer, the marching band competed in multiple competitions with its performance of Oasis, ending up at least in the top four every single time. OHS band director Peter Guenther said, “Everybody is varsity when you’re in marching band. There is a high success rate in marching band when everybody delivers the same, and that’s the same for every varsity sport.  But when you have eighty kids, and everybody’s varsity, it has to be right, pristine. Everybody has to perform at the same high level of contribution. That’s something that people kind of take for granted.”

Erin Ackman, marching band commander, said, “Marching band is special because everybody is on the varsity team; everyone matters. We’re an all inclusive family.” The marching band performance this year will be performed at the same high standards that Guenther has always set for his bands, so students know it is going to be a spectacular show. Guenther continued, “Some people say, ‘Well it’s just marching band.’ Well, when you really look at it, it’s not just marching band.  It’s artistic performance through music and motion.” The marching band will be performing on Friday, Sept. 30, for the Huskies’ football game. The homecoming royalty will also be announced, and the cheer team will make an appearance with their own performance.
