Kubat state bound

dsc_0137-useThe Owatonna Boys Cross Country season came to an end on Oct. 27 for all but one runner, senior captain Braydon Kubat. Kubat took 7th place in the sections race with a time of 16:33.4 which qualified him for the state meet. During the race Kubat was in a pack of about seven runners, Kubat said, “At mile marker two I didn’t think I was going to make it, last year I fell back at the exact same time and missed a state transfer spot,” but he was not going to let that happen to him again.

All of his off season preparation allowed him to push himself and keep up with the top runners. Coming around the final corner, Kubat gave it everything he had. Kubat said, “It was utter relief, a sense of accomplishment flushed into me as I went through the finish line.” Four years of hard work and preparation finally paid off, allowing him to go to his first ever state meet. Coach David Chatelaine said, “Braydon just needs to run his normal race and makes sure he gets a good start. He is also working on staying relaxed during the week and preparing mentally to run a good race.” Kubat will be running in the AA state meet in Northfield at 1 p.m. at St. Olaf  College on Nov. 5. Good luck at State, Braydon!
