Huskies play in the championship game, again
On Friday afternoon the OHS football team was facing elimination for the second time this year on one of the biggest stages in high school sports. Coach Jeff Williams said, “The Dome is a big atmosphere and usually you would want your guys to be only focused on the game but with this bunch they are so darn driven that you almost want them to not be robotic and to just enjoy the moment.” Playing at the Dome may be a factor, but not for OHS. When asked about how the team has prepared to play for such a big game Senior captain Ty Sullivan said, “First we plan to take everything in and just enjoy the moment because that’s what’s important. We are going to have to just not be overwhelmed by the atmosphere which I don’t see being a problem with this team.” With that statement it is fair to say that pregame jitters were not a problem. Everything came together great for the team which lead to their big 27-7 win. Coach Dean Walters said, ” Our defense was phenomenal and our offense did a great job being patient and executing when we needed them to. Plus when you have Carter McCauley as a weapon you’re pretty much set.”
Senior Sam Fenske also provided a charge on offense and defense breaking up drives and making some great plays in key points throughout the game. After the big win Fenske said, “I’m so happy to be a part of this team. I love these guys and I hope we can bring home a state title for our school on Saturday.” With the win the team now moves to 12-0 on the season.
Although the team has moved forward to the state championship, they will have to do so without the service of Senior Guard Chase Wedin who suffered a lower body injury that won’t allow him to play Saturday. This will mean that amongst a team of leaders someone will have to rise to the occasion and fill a big hole in the offensive line. The team will now move on to play their next opponent, Brainerd, at the Dome Saturday night Nov 30. at 4 p.m.
Hockey is my life, magnet is pretty cool though.
