New season, new floors, same look
The Owatonna Boys Basketball season is officially underway. After playing their first game of the year on the new floor, the Huskies have fallen in love with it. However, this is not the only new thing in store for the boys this season, as Owatonna recruited Greg Kruschke to the varsity coaching lineup this off-season. Although the additions of new faces provide a new scenario for the team, there are still a quite a few returning players this season. The Huskies have nine returning players who either touched the varsity lineup last year or who were part of the undefeated junior varsity team the previous year. Head Coach Josh Williams commented on the start of the fresh season, “I am very excited for our season. We have a number of kids who are pretty athletic and love to play the game. If the kids continue to work hard and develop over the season I expect us to be one of the most competitive teams in our section and conference.”
With all the new and old mixed into the team, the season started with a win over the Albert Lea Tigers with a score of 79-48 on “parents night.” The season looks bright for the boys this season, although Tuesday’s game tested the Huskies as they lost to Northfield 80-67. Junior guard Nolan Malo spoke on the team’s performance as a whole. Malo said, “I think our offense is starting to click, and just get steps on the defensive end. We also need to keep guys out of foul trouble.” The boys play in Apple Valley tonight, Thursday, Dec. 15, vs.the Eagles.
