Jeff Elstad named superintendent

Mr. Jeff Elstad will be the next superintendent of ISD 761

On Dec. 12, Mr. Jeff Elstad was announced as the new superintendent for the Owatonna Public Schools by the votes of all seven board members. Board Chair Mr. Mark Sebring told the Owatonna community and staff the big news at the School Board meeting that night. There was a bittersweet atmosphere at the meeting, as three of the current board members were leaving, but there was also the excitement of announcing Elstad’s position.

Sebring commented the there were many qualities that made Elstad a stand out candidate for the job. Sebring said, “Jeff has a familiarity with our district that will allow him to hit the ground running. His professional career since leaving Owatonna includes experiences that make him uniquely qualified to serve our district. He will prove his worth.”

Board members Tim Blazek and Ron Van Nurden agreed Elstad was the person for the job. Blazek said, “I think he can take us further in the direction we want to go. Take us to further levels.”

Van Nurden said, “I was just impressed with Jeff’s resume and the depth of experiences that he has, and the variety of experience that he’s had makes him just an outstanding candidate. Plus, his personality – very positive, outgoing type person – that will connect very well with our community.”

Elstad’s position begins July 1, 2017, and the School Board members seemed excited and optimistic about the future of Owatonna Public Schools.
