Dominating on the ice

The Owatonna Girls Hockey team is off to an astounding season so far.  With the season nearing the halfway point, the girls are dominating the Big 9 conference on the ice.  Boasting a 10-0-2 record in the Big 9 conference, the Huskies sit atop the leaderboards in wins and points scored in the conference.

The Huskies have made a huge surge since the beginning of the year. Coach Joel Tornell, “We’ve really pulled together since the beginning of January. The hard work is paying off and we are excited for the postseason push.” Since Dec. 8, Owatonna has gone on a three game conference win streak before tying Northfield 1-1 on Jan. 5.  During that streak the Huskies had a couple of tough losses to non conference opponents over Winter Break. Following the tie to Northfield they currently have a four game win streak in the conference. Junior Laura Ebeling said, “We are happy with how we’ve been playing so far and hope to continue it throughout the season.”

The Huskies tied Red Wing 1-1 on Hockey Day Minnesota, Jan. 21. The Huskies are looking to keep this dominating season going throughout the year and well into the postseason. On Monday Jan. 23 the girls had a bump in the road with a 3-1 nonconference loss to Minnehaha Academy. The Huskies are back in action Tuesday Jan. 24 at Faribault for a Big 9 conference matchup.
