Owatonna wrestling team has had a long, tough season, but all the hard work was worth it. The first round of sections was on Feb. 16, where Owatonna won 62-12 against Marshall with some added help of four forfeits from Marshall, putting Huskies in the lead by an unbeatable margin. Round two of sections was held at Rochester Civic Center on Feb. 18, where Owatonna yet again pulled ahead against Northfield, winning 48-19. This has allowed them to advance to the third and final round, where Owatonna beat a strong Faribault team 37-22 to get the section title, ending sections with an undefeated record.

After winning the section, the wrestling team will be going to state. Senior Hayden Fox said, “This year has been really fun and challenging.” This season has come with a lot of accomplishments for the wrestlers, not only from the process, but they have also benefited in getting better and improving their skill. The coaches are very happy with the progress of the team and hope to keep their momentum going into the state tournament. Co-Head Coach Adam Woitalla said “I’m very proud of what they have accomplished, they’ve worked hard for this and are very deserving of making the state tournament.” The State Tournament starts on Thursday, March 2, at the Xcel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul.
