Running to the finish line

The Owatonna Girl’s track team is off to a running start this season. After last year’s season, they are looking to attack this season head on. The Huskies have only lost a couple seniors, but still have a strong line-up of returning athletes. They have a strong  roster overall for all events to push for those wins this year. Junior Margo Achterkirch, a 2016 state participant, said, “I look forward to running with my friends, and hopefully doing well at the section and conference meets, while my ultimate goal is to make it to state.” They have set high goals and look forward to the upcoming season.

The Huskies have had three meets thus far, one being a time-trial meet at Gustavus Adolphus College. The other two meets were Co-ed meets on their home track and field. Head Coach Ann Christensen said, “This season has been going very well. We have a lot of talented, hard working girls. They set high goals for themselves and the team as a whole and are working hard to achieve them.” The girls are really looking forward to their season this year and plan to practice hard and shoot for success for the remainder of their season.

Senior Captains this year are: Karissa Gregory, Sydney Bartz, Caitlin Anderson and Mariah Dant. With their leadership, the Huskies look to push themselves to be the best they can be. Head Coach Anne Christensen also looks to push her team with the help from assistant coaches Van Swank, Teresa Koslowsky and Todd Anderson. Good luck this season Huskies! Next event is a triangular meet at Austin tomorrow. The Huskies do not have any more home meets this year.
