Round 2 for Allison An
November 16, 2017
As the year closed for most athletes on the girls swim and diving team, one individual still stands. Junior diver Allison An is headed back to the Minnesota State Diving meet for the second year in a row. After qualifying last year in the State diving tournament, An has her sights set on a Top 8 finish this year. Ann placed second at the section swim meet last Friday Nov. 10. Although, this year An racked up the second highest diving score in the history of the team with a score of 397 points, the school record is 410 points which is her goal next year.
Being a returner to the state diving tournament, sights and emotions are set high, Coach Isaiah Fuller said, “I think it is great Allison is going back, I am looking forward to seeing how she will do. There is great competition at the state meet with lots of year round divers, it’s gonna be fun.” Coach Fuller’s goal for An is also a Top 8 finish, which would secure her an All- State status.
When asked about what has changed from last year and what she is anticipating this year An said, “Not much, I have mostly the same dives, but they are better than last year, along with a couples of new ones (dives). I think I will score a 380, because they score harder at state.” An also included she wants to make second cuts on the first night.
The Minnesota State Diving Tournament will be held Nov. 16-18 at Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center at the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities. It is a meet that has several cuts to weed out the field with first cuts leaving 20 remaining divers and second cuts leaving the top 16 divers. Diving prelims will be held on Nov. 16 at 6:00 pm, and finals will be held Nov. 18 at 6:00 pm. Best of luck to Allison!
